Of all my predictions for 2025, ‘walking boots as a fashion trend’ was definitely not one.
Once the mainstay of the over 60s, hiking boots spent most of 2024 staging a bit of a coup; escaping their muddy fell walks for flat, topographically accessible high streets, shopping centres and restaurants.
Just like Stanley – a brand freed from sheds and toolboxes by its viral Cup- walking boots have comsequemtly found themselves in the hands of Tiktok Teens.
‘Dog-Walking Core‘, it seems, is here to stay.
If, like me, you are an elder millennial who continues to cling to trends as best you can, you might have found yourself slightly panicked by this turn of events. Flinging your Converse to the back of your wardrobe, you might be wondering what walking boots are considered fashionable in 2025? And where can you find stylish hiking boots for women?
Below is the result of my own research – a list of the best 13 stylish walking and hiking boots for women in 2025.
13 Stylish Walking and Hiking Boots for Women in 2025
1. Bankei Hiker Boots by Flower Mountain
Price: £328
Having discovered Free People only fairly recently, it wasn’t long before I came across one of their most stocked brands – the wonderful Flower Mountain.
Having already received a pair of their trainers for my birthday, I soon became fixated on their walking boots – specifically the Bankei Hiker Boots.
Not just supportive and able to do their job (and do it well), these boots incorporate ‘comfort’ technology and are, quite frankly, beautiful.
They are (sigh) expensive, but these are some seriously gorgeous – and premium – walking boots for 2025.
2. Danner Mountain 600 EVO Hiker Boots
Price: £228
When it comes to the best retro walking boots for women, these are definitely a contender.
Designed by the heritage brand, Danner, these boots are – first and foremost – designed to perform. Featuring full grain leather and a waterproof GORE-TEX liner, these are boots that you could take on a dog walk, on the school run, or when rambling the Lake District.
Of course, Danner’s reputation and quality materials means (yet another) big price tag. However, with these boots you really are deploying the motto: ‘buy well, buy once’.
I absolutely love the colour of these boots and their contrasting laces. They would look great with some jeans and a chunky knit – and are definitely a stylish pair of hiking boots for women.
3. The North Face Back-To-Berkeley IV Leather Waterproof Hiking Boots
Price: Currently on sale for £108
When it comes to the best hiking and walking boots for women, The North Face is an obvious place to look.
This iconic brand has been creating resilient, stylish and practical outdoor wear for nearly sixty years – and has been enjoying a resurgence in popularity as a fashion brand (ASOS is full of the stuff).
These leather walking boots (currently on sale for a cracking £108), are a fantastic alternative to the more traditional hiking boots on offer – blending sturdy soles with contrasting laces and white leather surround.
I succumbed to the sale price and bought these – and love wearing them with my trusty Topshop cut off jeans and an oversized puffer jacket.
4. The North Face Back-To-Berkeley IV waterproof hiking boots in olive green
Price: £155
Yes, another pair of North Face walking boots – I could not resist.
I went for the white, leather version of these (see above) as I wanted a slightly ‘smarter’ pair for trips out – but I do equally love this high top, vintage design.
These feel like the sort of pair you would want to take on a road trip through the Pacific North West, or while strolling the forests of Oregon.
Wholesome, retro and packed with earthy tones – and definitely a pair of stylish hiking and walking boots for women.
5. Sorel Kinetic Impact Conquest Plus WP Waterproof Suede Boot
Price: £155
When it comes to stylish walking boots for women, Sorel is definitely a leader.
Sorel walking boots have been popular for decades, since the brand began in 1962 in Ontario Canada (if anyone is going to need good outdoor gear, it’s those hardy Ontarians). However, in recent years, they’ve turned their attention to the fashion game – creating gorgeous and stylish women’s walking boots.
This pair is no different. The suede adds a real sense of luxury to these boots, and I love the chunky sole and lugged tread.
You know they will also stand the test of time – and keep your feet warm and dry.
If they are good enough for Canadians, they are good enough for me.
6. Barbour International Alani Leather Rubber Hiker Boots
Price: £149
I challenge you to find a more perfect pair of stylish women’s hiking boots than these – Barbour’s Alan Leather Rubber Hiker Boots.
Barbour, a much loved English heritage brand, has perfected the art of refined outerwear, and these hiking boots exemplify this perfectly.
With a slim ankle fit, but a chunky sole, these would look fantastic on the school run, or while trekking across the fields with a dog. Throw on a wax Barbour jacket and your dog walking core look is complete.
7. Merrell Moab 3 Mid Waterproof Boots
Price: £140
For those of you looking for stylish walking boots for women, that have more of a classical – down to earth – look, then look no further than these Merrell hiking boots.
Available in a few different colours ways (although I do love the pink), these boots would be perfect for a walking holiday – whether that’s the Lake District or Jordan -and would last a lifetime.
Perhaps less a fashion statement, and more just a slightly more aesthetically pleasing pair of hiking boots, these sturdy Merrell pair would definitely stand the test of time.
8. Vans MTE Crestline Waterproof Hiking Boots
Price: £148 – £158
Who doesn’t love a pair of Vans?
Having spent years wearing their trainers, I am now more than a little tempted to invest in a pair of their waterproof and high performance hiking boots.
As ever, Vans have ensured these boots come with their trademark look – they boast a perfect blend of function and fashion, making them ideal for both urban exploration and off-road adventures.
I love that they are still discernibly Vans, all whilst offering real quality.
9. Merrell Moab Speed 2 Leather Waterproof Boots
Price: £178
Another pair of Merrell walking boots, but this time with a bit more of a Vans feel to them.
These are a really impressive pair of hiking boots – really made for scaling hillsides and mountains, all whilst looking, well – pretty cool.
A little bulkier than some of the others in this list of stylish women’s walking and hiking boots, I still think they would look great with a pair of Mom jeans and an oversized knit.
10. Orla Kiely Floral Walking Boots (M&S)
Price: £98
Finally, a pair of fashionable women’s hiking boots that are under £100 – thank you, M&S.
I have loved Orla Kiely prints for a long time, but never expected to see them on a pair of walking boots. Yet, here we are – two perfect pairs of women’s hiking boots, beautifully decorated with Kiely’s distinctive colour block designs.
Designed and produced by Regatta – a reputable outdoor brand here in the UK – these sturdy walking boots might not have the Gen X feel of some of the above, but they are still beautiful.
Definitely a pair for our list of stylish walking and hiking boots for women in 2025.
11. Roxie Lane Chelsea Boot for Women in Brown
Price: £87 (in the sale)
Although perhaps not the sort of hiking boots you’ll wear up a mountain, I absolutely love these stylish pair of Timberland boots.
These remind me a little of my much-loved Dr Martens, but with a little more bounce and height. Featuring the trademarked ‘TimberGrip’ sole, these stylish women’s walking boots would be great for a city break – one where you are getting a lot of steps in, but are popping by cafes, galleries and stylish stores along the way.
12. Timberland Stone Street Lace-up Platform Hiker for Women in Brown
Price: £119 (in the sale)
These chunky, neat little Timberland boots are already a key part of my autumn and winter wardrobe.
True to Timberland’s brand and ethos, these are a real quality pair of leather boots and perfect for navigating muddy country lanes, children’s parks and dog walks during the colder months.
The contrast laces add a little ‘pop’ to this classic style of boot and look great with a skinny jean.
13. Josef Seibel, Wynter 02 Leather Walking Boots
Price: £85 (in the sale)
I found this bargain pair of stylish women’s walking boots in John Lewis, whilst browsing the sale.
Another stalwart of the boot world, Josef Siebel produce great leather shoes – albeit often aimed at older demographics. However, this pair of olive coloured boots are beautiful and a great price for such a high quality product.
The reviews for these boots look great too – with lots of happy customers reporting dry, warm feet.
